“Charles M. Russell, Paintings of the Old American West”, with Commentaries by Louis Chapin This is a good introduction to the works and career of renowned American painter Charles M. Russell. The format of the book is especially helpful to the reader. The art selections cover the gamut of Russell’s favorite western subjects from trappers to saucy Indian girls and much between. Highly-regarded Art expert, Louis Chapin provides quite interesting vignettes of about 250 words for each of the selections. A few of Mr. Chapin’s analyses are a long stretch for my imagination but, it’s his book so if he wants to see a couple angels in the architecture, that’s okay with me. It’s a fun read and informative too.
