Holbein and the Court of Henry VIII: Drawings from the Collection of H.M. Q ueen Elizabeth II, Windsor Castle Details
This catalogue lists the items displayed in an exhibition of the works of one of the greatest portrait artists of all time. The drawings by Hans Holbein in the Collection of H. M. Queen Elizabeth II are masterpieces of draughtsmanship. As realistic images of faces and for psychological individuality and depth of characterization, Holbein's portraits are rarely matched in the history of art; and the large group of drawings by Holbein in the Royal Library, Windsor, form the finest visual record to be found in European art of persons at a royal court. This exhibition was made possible by a grant from the Mobil Corporation, and was presented 21 April to 30 July 1983, at the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City. Read more
